You'll descend into 17th-century underground crypts where the remains of over 25,000 people are arranged in circular and symmetric patterns. You'll also visit the colossal baroque library, Sevillian-tiled cloisters, and a collection of Flemish and Spanish colonial religious art.
The catacombs may feel uncomfortable for people with severe claustrophobia as the spaces are narrow and dimly lit. For children under 8, we recommend evaluating whether the experience is appropriate. Alternative exits are available throughout the route.
Access to the catacombs is exclusively with a guided tour for safety and heritage preservation reasons. Bilingual guides (Spanish and English) explain the history of each space in detail — and it's a far richer experience with the narration included.
The complete guided tour — including the catacombs, church, cloisters, library, and art gallery — lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. Arriving a little early gives you time for photos in the cloisters before or after the tour.
Personal flash-free photography is permitted in most spaces. Inside the catacombs, special respect is requested as it is a place of eternal rest. Tripods and commercial photography require prior authorization.
